The New England Governors' Conference, Inc. (NEGC) is a
non-profit association which was established by the Governors of the six state region in 1937. The purposes of the NEGC are:
- to promote coordination of efforts for the solution of economic problems common to these six states;
to advance the economic welfare and prosperity of New England.
HEALTH CARE ISSUES
Throughout the years, NEGC has addressed health care issues as a primary area of concern. Major topics have included research and development funding for area research and teaching
hospitals, and the convening of regional conferences on education and health promotion issues.Recent activities include:
- in November 1998 the NEGC adopted resolutions addressing the Medicare interim payment system, and concerns over allocations of the Veterans' Administration health resources
- the NEGC has co-sponosred many recent conferences with the the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Region I and the New England Coalition for Health Promotion
and Disease Prevention (NECON). A recent example was the October 1998 regional conference addressing "Prevention Initiatives in the Evolving Health Care System."
